Jamie Eliot

What do you teach at Loudlands?

Bass/Guitar/Band

When did you start playing?

When I was 9 years old

What's your favorite aspect of music or your instrument?

The role it plays in the band and the way it allows me to connect with others

Who are some of your favorite bands/musicians and why?

Stevie Wonder (one of the greatest singers, instrumentalists, songwriters, arrangers, and producers of all time! He does it all) The Indigo Girls (my parents introduced me to them as a a kid and I love their songwriting and vocal chemistry)

What are some of your current and/or past music projects?

I play in an all woman/non-binary cover band called The Femmes and a folk/rock jam band called Middles!

How would you describe your music and playing style?

I love to play any and all genres and styles but I have a special love for folk music and R&B/soul because those are the genres I grew up with. My playing style therefore heavilyb emphasizes groove and collaboration.

Can you please describe your gear of choice?

Both of my regular gigging basses are jazz basses (I love the range of sound they give you!). For guitar I play a stratocaster (again because I love the versatility) and a Taylor acoustic that has been in my family for quite some time.

Any general advice you'd like to give to beginner musicians or someone looking to get started?

Find the thing you're obsessed with doing and do it! There are a million things to learn and ways to learn. Find the ones that make your brain feel the best! And practice. Practice a lot.

Aside from playing/making music, what are some of your other interests and hobbies?

I love board/card/tabletop games, I'm a big Red Sox fan, and I enjoy reading sci-fi novels!

If you were battling a physically identical but evil android version of yourself on top of a skyscraper during a thunderstorm and someone miraculously intervened, how would they know which one was the real you?

Ask me my favorite seltzer flavor and the evil one would say orange (terrifying) and I would say pomegranate (sensible).
